Pep Guardiola has been speaking about how important Ederson is for Manchester City.
The 30-year-old is in the middle of his seventh season at the Manchester club and currently looking to help his side win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League once again.
Having played a big part in City’s successes last season, the goalkeeper has found himself being spoken about by his manager in glowing terms.
Guardiola hails Ederson importance
Speaking in his recent press conference ahead of today’s match against Bournemouth, Guardiola had this to say about Ederson.
He said: “It’s not necessary to say how important Ederson has been. Stable, consistent, and now we have an incredible other keeper in Stefan Ortega. Every time he plays, he proves quality. But Ederson is massively important in our success, in everything!”
City signed the shot-stopper from Benfica back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth £35m.
Since then, the Brazilian has made 321 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, keeping 150 clean sheets and winning numerous trophies along the way including five Premier League titles and a Champions League.
This season has seen Ederson start all but one of City’s Premier League games, which shows how important he is for the team as Guardiola said.
Even though only seven goalkeepers that have played in the Premier League this season have a lower save percentage than Ederson (67.5%) for this campaign, the fact that he still plays regularly shows that Guardiola has a lot of confidence in him, which these latest comments have only strengthened.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the season, if the Brazil international can improve his shot-stopping and keep being useful in other areas of the game, he’ll once again give his side a great chance of winning even more silverware.
