Mateo Kovacic has previously highlighted what Manchester City could be getting if they secure a transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol.
Earlier this week, it was reported that City have opened talks over potentially signing the Chelsea midfielder this summer, with personal terms apparently close to being agreed.
Since then, it has been reported that the Manchester club have set their sights on signing another Croatian international – Gvardiol.
In fact, a recent Twitter post from The Secret Scout claimed that Pep Guardiola’s side have identified the defender as a key target for the summer and have spoken with the player’s representatives.
They also claim that the player is keen on making a move to the Etihad Stadium and that both sides are confident a deal will be struck this summer.
Kovacic is a big fan on Gvardiol
Interestingly, Kovacic has already shared his thoughts on the centre-back, saying this about him back in December.
He said: “He’s phenomenal, he’s 20 and he’s already fantastic. He can play at the highest level and he will only continue to get better.”

Both players featured heavily in the World Cup for Croatia and managed to impress, with Kovacic ending the campaign with the highest average of tackles per game in the squad (3.4) and Gvardiol having the highest average of interceptions (1.6) and clearances per game (5.3).
Taking that into account, it’s easy to see why the duo have found themselves on City’s radar heading into the upcoming summer transfer window.
Moving forward, if the Citizens do end up signing both players over the summer, they will definitely strengthen Guardiola’s squad.
