Manchester City have signed several players who have had previous experience playing for other clubs in England.

For instance, players such as Jack Grealish, Matheus Nunes, Nathan Ake, Kyle Walker and John Stones have joined City from fellow clubs in the Premier League over the past eight years.

Another top-flight player Pep Guardiola’s side signed from one of their league rivals in recent memory and added to their squad is Mateo Kovacic.

City paid £25m to purchase the midfielder from Chelsea back in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Having now got his second season at the Etihad Stadium underway, the Croatian has been reflecting on what his highlight moment as a City player has been.

Mateo Kovacic highlights special Man City moment

Appearing in a recent video shared on the club’s official YouTube channel, Kovacic said this when asked about the trophy successes he’s had since joining the Blues.

He said: “I think every trophy is special in a kind of way because you fight to win it all and it’s nice when you can win a trophy because you can appreciate how tough it is.

“It’s not easy to win trophies. In City, it feels like in the last years it’s easy but it’s really difficult.

“If I had to go with one it’s the Premier League because I played in England now for six years and I’ve seen how tough it is to win a Premier League title and to win in my first year at City is really something special.”

How did Kovacic fare in his first Premier League campaign at City?

In five years at Chelsea, the 30-year-old made 142 Premier League appearances but didn’t manage to win a title with the West London club.

Having then gone on to win his first Premier League trophy in his first campaign with City, making 30 appearances in the process, this makes it easy to see why he has picked this particular success as being a special occasion in his career.

In fact, after the title was confirmed on the final day of the previous campaign, Kevin De Bruyne was seen saying to Kovacic that winning the Premier League trophy was why he came to the club in the first place.

On the pitch, the Croatian showed that his passing was his main strength for the Citizens, as he ended the season with the highest passing accuracy (94%) out of players who completed the full season at the club.

Taking all of that into account, Kovacic certainly played a key role in last season’s Premier League title victory and deserves to relish it as his best accomplishment in a City shirt.
