Manchester City journalist Sam Lee has claimed that the club could sign Florian Wirtz next summer.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Manchester club had identified the Bayer Leverkusen star as a suitable replacement for Riyad Mahrez, who joined Al Ahli in a £30m deal earlier in the summer transfer window.
Now though, one journalist has shared an update regarding the treble winner’s interest in the German.
Lee says City could make 2024 move for Wirtz

Speaking in a recent edition of the Let Me Talk podcast, Lee had this to say when asked if City are likely to sign Wirtz this summer.
He said: “If we’d have done this podcast a few hours ago I would have said he might still be in the equation although by far from certain, but no, I don’t think that’s happening now.

“Maybe next summer because of the leverage but he is obviously quality but not now.”
With 105 senior appearances for Leverkusen to his name, the 20-year-old has scored 25 goals and delivered 30 assists.
Even though the youngster spent a large chunk of last season out injured, he still managed to have a big impact when he was available, by scoring four goals and providing eight assists in 25 appearances.

This current season has started off fairly well for the midfielder, as he’s scored in both games he’s featured in.
Taking into account what Lee said and the fact that City have now signed Jeremy Doku and have been linked with moves for Matheus Nunes and Eberechi Eze, it seems likely that Wirtz will not be making a move to the Etihad Stadium before the summer transfer window closes.
However, if he goes on to have an impressive season with Leverkusen, we feel that making a move for him next summer could be a good piece of business from the Citizens.
