Micah Richards implores Manchester City to sign Diego Costa

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has urged the club to sign Diego Costa and seal a fifth Premier League title.

It is unlikely Pep Guardiola will be doing any business over the next couple of days.

There have been very few reports of interest in any players, with the Telegraph claiming the Spaniard is set to splash out in the summer.

The squad is in a good place though, andthe team have gone through the gears in recent weeks.

But in the eyes of Richards, there is one signing City ought to consider making in the next few days.

Writing for BBC Sport, he said: “Manchester City are already on a ridiculously good run of form but if they signed Diego Costa now, he would win them the Premier League – I am sure of it.

“Why not get him in until the end of the season?

“He would do more than just ruffle a few feathers and be a pain in the backside for opposition defences – he is a proven finisher who would offer Pep Guardiola’s side a proper plan B.

“Yes, you would have to cover Costa’s wages, but the massive difference he could make to City’s season would make that worthwhile.”

Recent Costa form a concern

Costa was undoubtedly a world-class striker during his time at Chelsea.

But things have changed since then. The 24-cap Spain international largely struggled during his second stint with Atletico and the fact his contract was terminated early perhaps tells a story.

Maybe he would be a decent signing, but he would definitely be a big risk.
