Manchester City secured their sixth Premier League title in seven years at the end of their previous season.

In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side became the first team to win four consecutive Premier League trophies.

In doing so, the Blues pipped Arsenal to the title for the second time in a row.

Now that the next campaign is around the corner, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, who used to be part of Guardiola’s coaching staff at City, has shared some details on what his side are aiming to do in regards to potentially toppling the Citizens from their perch.

Mikel Arteta sends early warning to Man City ahead of new season

In a recent press conference (via Arsenal), Arteta said this when asked what it would take to see his side finish above City at the end of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

He said: “114 points – if we do that we will win the league for sure!

“This is the objective and from there let’s see what we can get, but today that has to be the target, win every single game and earn the right to win it and have the biggest probability on the opponent to win the game.

“When we have difficulties, we still need to be better than the opponent, so that’s the objective for the team.”

City will need to be wary of another Arsenal charge for the Premier League title

Looking back over the previous campaign, City ended the season with 91 points after winning 28 of their 38 games, drawing seven and losing three.

On the flip side, Arsenal racked up 89 points in total, winning the same number of games as City but losing two more matches than them.

Back in June, the former City coach revealed that after the Blues won their latest title, he congratulated Guardiola and his staff, which shows how much respect he has for his former colleagues.

With Arteta showing just how high City have set the bar in terms of what it takes to win a league title, it’s easy to see why the Gunners boss thinks the only way to do so would be to win all of their matches this time around.

Having come second for two seasons in a row, there’s no doubt that City will once again have to be wary of Arteta’s side and their eagerness to take the title away from Manchester.
