Manchester City ran out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.

The match at the Etihad Stadium ended up being full of incidents and flared tempers, with 10 yellow cards and one red being shown throughout the game.

The two managers were also involved in certain incidents on the day as Pep Guardiola was shown a yellow card for his behaviour in the technical area before Mikel Arteta was seen being told to be humble by Erling Haaland on the pitch after the final whistle.

Now though, the Arsenal boss has shared some clarity on how he currently feels about the City manager and former colleague.

Mikel Arteta shares update on relationship with Pep Guardiola after Man City vs Arsenal

In a recent press conference (via Football London), Arteta said this when asked if last weekend’s fiery game against City had damaged his relationship with Guardiola and how the duo are able to keep their relationship on good terms.

He said: “First of all, because I love him, I respect him, I admire him and I admire his team and everything that he does.

“This is sport. One thing is our profession another is our personal relationship.

“If our relationship was damaged because one draws and the other one wins or the amount of times that they’ve beaten us, I would not talk to him anymore.

“So that’s not our relationship, especially the relationship that I consider both of us have. In sport, it will never get in my way of a personal relationship. That’s for sure.”

What Guardiola did to Arteta after City drew against Arsenal

Following the big match against the Gunners, Guardiola revealed that he texted Arteta after the match and clarified that the relationship between the pair is at it was previously.

Having had Arteta as his assistant manager for his first three years in charge of the Manchester club, it’s easy to see why

Now that the Gunners boss has reiterated how close he still is with Guardiola and showed how they both know the difference between a professional and personal relationship, this not only shows how respectful they are of each other but also how strong they are emotionally as individuals.

Despite that, each manager will still be desperate to see their respective sides win the Premier League title this season, regardless of their personal relationship.
