Gary Neville has claimed that Manchester City number one Ederson Moraes was at fault for the initial penalty his side conceded at the hands of Liverpool.
The Brazilian goalkeeper kicked out at Darwin Nunez, who was clean through on goal after a poor back pass from Nathan Ake.
Ultimately, Alexis Mac Allister beat Stefan Ortega from 12 yards out after Ederson was brought off after he suffered an injury in the aftermath of his failed attempt to stop the Reds striker in his tracks.
Gary Neville says Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson produced a “moment of madness” for penalty against Liverpool
As the £34.7 million (Sky Sports) man was substituted off, Ortega managed to deputise well in his absence as City were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.
With both sides dropping points, Arsenal managed to leapfrog the pair and now sit atop of the Premier League table.
A debate seems to be ongoing about whether Ederson or Nathan Ake made the fatal error for the opener conceded by Manchester City against Liverpool but Gary Neville believes the blame lies in the former’s hands.

“It’s a moment of madness. Ederson is usually much more composed in moments like that. He just wellies [Darwin] Nunez up in the air. He just commits. He must surely know he’s not getting there and he should just jockey him wide”, he said on Sky Sports.
Nathan Ake was at fault in the first place
Perhaps Gary Neville has a point about the need for Ederson to be calmer for Manchester City as he took Darwin Nunez out and Liverpool were given a penalty early into the second half.
It is difficult to ascertain whether the former Benfica shotstopper well and truly knew if he could get to the ball earlier than Nunez.
But what cannot be argued is that the initial pass from Nathan Ake was far too short.
The Dutchman had plenty of time to play a relatively simple pass in Ederson’s path but instead, he uncharacteristically made a meal of it and made life difficult for the visitors on Sunday.
