Most penalty goals for Manchester City

These days Manchester City love trying to score the perfect goal.

The brand of football instilled at the Etihad Stadium by Pep Guardiola is undoubtedly some of the best ever seen.

But quite often nothing beats a good penalty goal.

City have actually struggled from the spot in recent times, so much so that there has actually been some talk about goalkeeper Ederson assuming the responsibility.

It is yet to happen, but a few more misses and who knows.

Down the years though City have had some great takers, and here are the players with the most goals for the club from the penalty spot

Sergio Aguero – 42

It’s hardly surprising that Aguero has the most penalty goals for the club, given he is the all-time top scorer.

The Argentine rattled in 42 across all competitions during his 10 years at the club.

That’s a lot but it could well have been a fair few more, with the South American actually not as deadly as one would assume from 12 yards.

The less said about that Panenka attempt against Chelsea, the better…

Yaya Toure – 14

Not only was Yaya Toure an unbelievable all-round midfielder, he was also extremely good at penalties.

The Ivorian bagged 14 times from the spot during a fantastic, trophy-laden spell with the club and never missed.

Carlos Tevez – 13

Carlos Tevez was deadly inside the penalty area, and was extremely handy from the spot.

The star was much more reliable than his fellow Argentine Aguero, and scored 13 penalty goals during his four years at the Etihad.

Francis Lee – 12

Former striker and club legend Lee scored 12 goals from the penalty spot during his seven years at the club.

The star signed for £60,000 in 1967, and he actually holds the English record for most penalties scored in a season.

Nicolas Anelka – 10

It seems like an eternity ago that Nicolas Anelka was a Manchester City player.

The Frenchman had many clubs throughout his career, and played for City for two-and-a-half years from 2002 until 2005.

In that time he scored 10 penalties for the club.

Mario Balotelli, Elano – 8

As talented as he was, his temperament meant a lot of fans found it hard to trust him on the pitch.

That was never the case whenever he stepped up to take a penalty, though.

The Italian maverick was as reliable as they came from 12 yards and never missed in the Sky Blue shirt.

Brazilian midfielder Elano was also pretty handy from the spot, scoring eight times for the club.
