Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte has suggested that he has not enjoyed the 2022/2023 season as much as previous campaigns.
The £57.2 million (Guardian) man told Manchester Evening News after Pep Guardiola’s side beat Manchester United to win the FA Cup.
While Aymeric Laporte must be over the moon to be one step away from winning the treble at Manchester City, he has made his feelings clear about being on the outskirts of the starting XI.
Aymeric Laporte suggests he has not enjoyed the ongoing season as much as previous campaigns
The Spanish international, branded as an ‘aggressive’ defender by Eric Garcia via Barça Blaugranes has been previously reported to be on his way out of the club after what has been a frustrating campaign for him.
While the 29-year-old was out injured for the first seven Premier League games, he has only started a mere 11 matches since, as he has now become City’s fifth-choice central defender.
When quizzed about whether Aymeric Laporte has enjoyed the ongoing season at Manchester City, he admitted that it is not been as enjoyable as his previous campaigns.

“Personally, much less than other seasons. It’s true that I’ve played a bit less but the most important thing is the team, the points, the matches and the trophies.”
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte is right to feel this way
Considering Aymeric Laporte played through injury last season at the backend of the campaign to ensure Manchester City win the title, one can understand why he may even feels slightly hard done by.
While Laporte likely may understand that all of City’s centre-backs have been operating at an elite level, he too is one of the best of the best.
Players are entitled not to be best pleased when playing as less as the former Athletic Bilbao centre-half has this season but it is commendable to have witnessed how professional he has been regardless.
