Walter De Vecchi has now admitted that he would love to see Manuel Locatelli join Manchester City.

The AC Milan youth coach made the comment when speaking to Sport Italia.

So, what was said about Manuel Locatelli and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Italy international scored the winner in Sunday’s Serie A clash between Juventus and AC Milan, which Juventus won 1-0.

De Vecchi – who worked with Locatelli in the academy at AC Milan – praised the Juventus No.5 for his progress after that clash, but admitted that he would love to see the Italian play for a more imposing side such as Manchester City.

The 68-year-old said: “He is becoming an increasingly important player, also for the national team. In addition to being in possession and setting up, he is also good at recovering the ball and assisting his teammates in difficulty.

“Those who criticise Locatelli understand nothing about football. In a team who imposes their game, he would be a sort of Paulo Roberto Falcao. My dream would be to see him in a team like Manchester City. We would see a stellar Locatelli.”

Manchester City wanted to sign Manuel Locatelli

Interestingly, Manchester City are said to have expressed interest in Locatelli before.

Back in January 2021, the Italian’s agent – Stefano Castelnuovo – claimed that Manchester City were among the sides monitoring the Lecco-born maestro, who eventually joined Juventus for £30m.

Speaking to Sport Italia, he said: “In the January transfer market, Sassuolo will not sell the player. Manchester City are one of the teams that is monitoring him for the next market (the summer).”

Locatelli was raised on Roberto De Zerbi football at Sassuolo, so he would presumably fit in well under Pep Guardiola if Manchester City chose to reignite that interest in 2024.

If a move does happen, Manchester City fans should be very excited – Locatelli is performing to an exceptional standard right now, to say the least.
