There has been some talk about which player will be the next to receive a statue at Manchester City – but Nedum Onuoha has predicted it will actually be Pep Guardiola.

Currently, there are three players who have statues at the Etihad Stadium.

Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Aguero have all been honoured by the club. The statues were created by award-winning sculptor Andy Scott.

Some have been wondering whether there could be some more erected at the Etihad in the coming years.

Perhaps the two players who are most likely to be recognised by the club are Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan.

The two midfielders have both made enormous contributions to City’s dominance of the Premier League in recent years.

The pair have been absolutely instrumental in helping City win trophy after trophy.

De Bruyne is one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen and does truly extraordinary things on a football pitch.

And Gundogan is also an incredible player who has produced some unforgettable moments for City fans, such as his two goals off the bench against Aston Villa to win the league last season.

Both could well be given statues in the future. But former City defender Onuoha believes it’s actually Pep who will be next in line.

He said on the Let Me Talk podcast: “I think if anything, the next statue that goes up will be a Guardiola one. I think it will be, before players. The Gundogan and De Bruyne statues… it feels like De Bruyne will probably get one at some point. Cases have been put forward to say he is the best midfielder in the world. That’s a very, very significant layer to have on board.

“I don’t think he’d want one. But that’s quite a significant thing.”

Pep Guardiola will 100% be getting a statue at Manchester City, but it should happen after he leaves

There is no doubt about it – Guardiola will get a statue at City at some point.

The man has done an absolutely incredible job as manager and delivered title after title after title.

He has also delivered a brand of football that is just so entertaining to watch and has been a trailblazer for other managers in the game with his tactics.

And certainly, if he wins a first Champions League for the club, there will be absolutely no debate.
