Nedum Onuoha has revealed the one team he hated playing against when he was at Manchester City.
The defender made 116 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions between making his senior debut in October 2004 and eventually leaving the club in 2012.
Now, the 36-year-old has shared some details on his time with City and what it was like playing against certain opponents.
Onuoha says he hated playing against Man United
Speaking on the latest episode of the Let Me Talk podcast, Onuoha was asked which opponents he liked playing against the least, which led to him to say Manchester United.
Specifically, the former defender had this to say on what it was like playing against the Red Devils during his time with the Citizens, highlighting one match, in particular, that frustrated him.
He said: “I think it was 2009, 2010 maybe where [Paul] Scholes scores a header in the last second of the game. Disgusting. I like Paul because he lives near me and he’s sound but there’s so much trauma looking back at those times against them, hated it with a passion.”
Across his entire career, Onuoha faced off against United 10 times in total, losing six of them, leaving only three other clubs that have won against the defender’s sides on more occasions.
This makes it easy to see why the former City centre-back didn’t relish coming up against their rivals.
The match that Onuoha spoke about came back in April 2010 where Scholes scored an injury time winner to secure a 1-0 win for United at the Etihad Stadium, which makes it understandable why it would have left a sour taste in the defender’s mouth.
While it would have been frustrating for the defender-turned-pundit to be losing more often than not against United, he will surely have some comfort now by the fact that since the Old Trafford outfit won their last Premier League title, City have won it six times.
