Nedum Onuoha says Phil Foden has such a rare connection with one Man City teammate

Phil Foden has once again grabbed the headlines with another crucial contribution for Manchester City.

Just over a week on from scoring a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Brentford, he was on the score sheet in another 3-1 victory on Tuesday night.

City returned to European action for the first leg of their last 16 tie against FC Copenhagen and dominated in the Danish capital.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring before Bernardo Silva had to put the Blues back in the lead after Copenhagen leveller against the run of play.

Pep Guardiola’s side continued to control the game and got the two-goal margin they deserved through Foden in the final minutes.

Phil Foden comes in for big praise

Nedum Onuoha was left impressed by Foden, not only for scoring the goal but for the way he helped create it.

The 23-year-old played the ball to De Bruyne but continued his run to be on hand for the return pass.

Onuoha says the connection the pair have on the pitch is such a rare thing to find.

“Yes he was [brilliant], and this is him playing out wide,” the former centre-back said on City’s Match Day Live show.

“The side that he doesn’t really want to play, he wants to be more central, but he can still have a big impact on the game.

“Again, some of his touches were top class. Defensively he was good as well but in attack he was always making the right decision, making the right run.

“Like the timing of the pass for his goal actually, which he plays to Kevin, but then also knowing to follow up cause Kevin is going to find him.

“There’s a connection those two have which most people will never have.”

Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden – Dynamic duo

It’s a crying shame a hamstring injury has robbed us of watching Foden and De Bruyne link up all season long.

The brilliant Belgian has only been back in action for seven matches but is on course to be the player of the season.

He already has a remarkable 10 goal contributions to his name and everyone else around him is getting better as well.

When De Bruyne, as well as Erling Haaland, was out injured, it was Foden who held down the fort and stepped up.

He is playing the best football of his career and now he’s got the chance to do alongside De Bruyne. We’re going to see a lot more magic in the games to come.
