Jamie Carragher has shared the one aspect of Pep Guardiola’s coaching career that he wouldn’t criticise him for.

The Spaniard is currently in the middle of his eighth season in charge of the Citizens and on the hunt to regain the three titles at the end of their last campaign.

Despite being one of the most decorated managers in modern history, the City boss has had his coaching ability questioned, mainly because he has only managed what can quite easily be described as top sides.

However, one pundit, who has no connection to either of the clubs Guardiola has managed, has shared his thoughts on this particular point that has been thrown at the 53-year-old.

Speaking in a recent edition of Stick To Football, Carragher had this to say about Guardiola.

He said: “I always feel like the only one criticism of Pep is that he hasn’t done it with a lesser team but how many managers have had the resources and been at a massive club and completely failed?

“Because you have to get that respect of the dressing room, the big players. So I never have that criticism of Pep.”

Across his managerial career, Guardiola has been in charge of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, overlooking 858 games in total, winning 656 of them along the way.

In terms of the silverware he’s won, the Spaniard has lifted 11 league titles and three Champions League trophies, in addition to numerous other domestic and European honours.

Even though Guardiola has not managed a club that wouldn’t be expected to win silverware, the fact that he has been consistently successful at the clubs he has managed shows how much of a top manager he is in being able to keep his players motivated and focused on winning.
