Nedum Onuoha says Manchester City could benefit from having a striker partnership of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in the team.

The pair had a successful first season at the Etihad Stadium last term by winning the Premier League, FA Cup and the Champions League.

Having started last night’s 3-0 win over Burnley in the first game of City’s new league campaign together, one former City player has had his say over this particular partnership.

Speaking in a pre-match live stream on the club’s official YouTube channel, Onuoha had this to say about Haaland and Alvarez playing alongside each other.

He said: “It’s nice, I think it’s still developing. I don’t think we’ve seen the best of it yet but if it clicks into gear, then I think it could really be formidable to be honest.”

Back in January, Pep Guardiola said that the two attacker have the capability to play alongside each other, especially against teams that play five at the back, which could be a hint as to which games they are likely to feature in together this season.

Last season saw the duo feature in 29 games together in all competitions but only started 12 of them, racking up just two joint-goal contributions.

With the two strikers starting in Friday’s match at Turf Moor, they linked up well as the Argentine provided the assist for Haaland’s second goal of the game to put Guardiola’s side 2-0 up in the first half.

This shows that Onuoha was right to suggest that this is a partnership that could become very significant for the Citizens.

Moving forward, if the duo can start more games together on a regular basis and keep scoring and providing goals for each other, they’ll surely give City a great chance of winning games and regaining their titles.
