David Seaman has backed Ederson to start for Manchester City for their upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester United.

City’s previous Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion saw Ederson spend the afternoon on the bench, with Stefan Ortega Moreno making his first league start of the campaign.

With the Citizens now set to return to domestic action after another midweek Champions League victory, one pundit and former City player has had his say about who he thinks will be in net to take on the Red Devils this weekend.

Speaking in a recent edition of Seaman Says, the former England goalkeeper had this to say about Ederson.

He said: Ederson stays in. There’s no question marks there, I don’t think. Ederson is way in front.”

The Manchester club signed the shot-stopper back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Benfica in a deal worth £35m.

Since then, the Brazil international has gone on to make 301 appearances for City across all competitions, keeping 142 clean sheets along the way and winning numerous trophies including five Premier League titles.

Having started all eight of City’s Premier League games prior to the Brighton game, it’s understandable why Seaman thinks the Brazilian will find himself back in the starting XI this weekend.

Even though he was unable to keep a clean sheet on Wednesday night in City’s 3-1 win over Young Boys, the 30-year-old did show how capable he is between the sticks by making three saves and collecting two high claims.

With Guardiola revealing that he didn’t pick Ederson to play against Brighton because he wanted to give him a rest after his efforts on international duty with Brazil, this and his performance in midweek suggests to us that he will be in net this weekend at Old Trafford.
