Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a potential Manchester City transfer deal for Gabri Veiga has not collapsed.
Last month, it was reported that the Citizens had joined Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign the Celta Vigo midfielder, who has an apparent release clause in his contract worth €40m (£35m).
However, no further development has emerged regarding the Manchester club’s interest in the 21-year-old, who has been described as being a “quality” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig.
Now though, Romano has addressed this particular subject and revealed why the Spaniard hasn’t been a hot topic for City in recent weeks.
City still in the frame to sign Veiga

Speaking in a recent episode of The Here We Go Podcast, Romano had this to say when asked if a move for Veiga from City has collapsed.
He said: “Not collapsed but City have different priorities, [Josko] Gvardiol, a winger because Man City are hoping to keep [Riyad] Mahrez at the club but Mahrez is going to Al-Ahli so that’s why they’re now focused on winger and a centre-back.”
Having been in talks with RB Leipzig for the past few weeks over a potential transfer deal for Gvardiol, this will undoubtedly be City’s main objective at the moment.

Then, as Romano also mentioned, the treble winners could be set to see Mahrez leave the club in the coming days after they had agreed a £30m deal with Al-Ahli to sell him to the Saudi Arabian side, which would then presumably require them to search for a replacement.
In addition to that, Kyle Walker has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, so if that were to happen, this could put signing Veiga even further down City’s to-do list if they want to bring in a replacement for the Englishman.
Moving forward, if the European champions want to add Veiga to their ranks this summer, they may have to act quickly to get their other priorities sorted or else they may miss their chance to secure a deal for the Spaniard.
