‘Not normal’… Paul Merson left stunned by what he saw from ‘extraordinary’ Man City player recently

Paul Merson has hailed Manchester City striker Erling Haaland for his goalscoring ability and mentality.

In his latest appearance for the Citizens, the striker found the net five times in their 6-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup at Kenilworth Road.

With the Norwegian now hoping to continue his goalscoring run in this weekend’s Premier League clash against Manchester United, one pundit has been sharing his plaudits for the City star and what makes him such a top striker.

In his latest column for Sportskeeda, Merson had this to say about Haaland after his goalscoring efforts in midweek.

He said: “Erling Haaland scoring five goals away from home against a Premier League side in the FA Cup is not normal, but we tend to take him for granted.

“I can’t put into words how extraordinary a feat that is – it was mind-blowing and I mean it.

“He’s absolutely ruthless in front of goal and doesn’t care if he scores a tap-in or a diving header, that’s what I love about him!”

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, the centre-forward has made 83 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 79 goals in the process.

Having scored 52 goals in 53 appearances last season, breaking numerous records in doing so, it’s not hard to see why Merson, who scored 145 goals throughout his career, thinks so highly of Haaland and the way he scores goals on such a consistent basis.

With City on the hunt to regain the three trophies they picked up last season, if Haaland can continue finding the back of the net and helping his side win games, his goals could be a big factor in the Premier League title race and City’s pursuits of the FA Cup and Champions League.
