‘Nothing personal’… Kevin De Bruyne drops brutal verdict on two Man City teammates

Kevin De Bruyne has shared his thoughts on which of two of his Manchester City teammates he would start in a game.

The midfielder has been forced to watch his side play from afar after undergoing hamstring surgery that kept him out of action for five months.

Now though, having started to get back into the swing of things on the pitch, the 32-year-old has been forced to make a decision as if he were managing City and had the option to start or bench two specific teammates.

Speaking in a recent video on the Premier League’s YouTube channel where he was given the task of starting or benching, from an FPL point of view, two of his City teammates – Jeremy Doku and Manuel Akanji.

He said: “Jeremy is able to get more points in a way but he’s a winger so he doesn’t play every game when Manuel has got more of a chance to play. He’s got the chance of playing a lot. Nothing personal, it’s more logical in my mind.”

Focusing on Doku, the fact that he has started 12 of the 19 games he’s appeared in for City across all competitions this season backs up De Bruyne’s point about him not being a consistent starter and therefore not an ideal pick to be in a fantasy team.

Then with Akanji starting 23 of the 26 games he’s featured in this season, it’s understandable why the Belgian took the logical route of picking the defender to start in his imaginary fantasy team ahead of Doku.

Even though the winger has scored four goals and delivered six assists across his 19 games in a City shirt this season, it’s easy to see why De Bruyne picked Akanji to start and Doku to be on the bench.
