Chris Sutton has now made a significant claim about Phil Foden after the Manchester City No.47 shone for England against Scotland.
The 50-year-old posted his thoughts about the 23-year-old on Twitter.
So, what did Chris Sutton write about Phil Foden? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the BBC and TNT Sports pundit feels that the £120,000-a-week man should now be one of the first names on Gareth Southgate’s teamsheet for England.
Sutton wrote: “Jude Bellingham pips Phil Foden as England’s best technical player but Phil Foden has to start going forward for Gareth Southgate. It shouldn’t even be up for debate now.”
It really shouldn’t.
Few nations have a player of Foden’s talent, so it almost beggars belief that Southgate continues to overlook him as a regular starter.

Furthermore, the 53-year-old’s recent comments about not wanting to use the Stockport-born maestro in midfield because he doesn’t play there for Manchester City were simply baffling, especially as Kieran Tripper is often used at left-back but rarely features there at club level.
At this point, it feels as if Southgate simply does not know what to do with a player of Foden’s quality, and that must change before EURO 2024 begins next summer.
Phil Foden can play anywhere for England
To put it simply, a player of Foden’s ability can play anywhere – he could even make an impact in defensive midfield for England, as far as we’re concerned.

It would be criminal to leave the Manchester City academy graduate on the sidelines at EURO 2024 when he can cause so many problems for opponents – he has the talent to win games for the Three Lions in the blink of an eye, even if the match is not going England’s way.
Hopefully, Foden can enjoy another strong campaign under Pep Guardiola, and can also make himself impossible for Southgate to ignore.
