Ally McCoist reckons Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku is a bit like Riyad Mahrez in how direct he is.
The youngster featured last night in City’s 3-1 win over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.
Doku actually started on the bench.
But he was called into action just before half-time by Pep Guardiola, who had to take off the injured Bernardo Silva.
Following on from his lively display against West Ham United, Doku impressed against the Serbian outfit.
The Belgian was a constant threat and was full of confidence.
And at one point in the game, McCoist made an interesting remark about the £55 million man…
Ally McCoist says Jeremy Doku is a lot like Riyad Mahrez
Doku was a real livewire once again last night.

When he got the ball, his first thought was often about how he could beat his man.
He is a player that is going to get fans out of their chairs.
And McCoist believes he is not so dissimilar to Mahrez, who was sold by City for £30 million to Al Ahli this summer.
He said on commentary for TNT Sports last night: “The point I’m trying to make is he’s as direct as Mahrez. Mahrez very comfortable at going taking people on, committing people and going by people.
“Doku is very, very much of that ilk.”
Doku is like a quicker Mahrez
This is a fair assessment from McCoist.
Mahrez was renowned for taking people on, chopping the ball back and forth before delivering a cross or having a shot.
He could put people on the floor in an instant.
Doku gives off the same vibes. His is direct just like the Algerian.

But the key difference is that Doku is much more explosive than Mahrez. Mahrez was more measured, precise and technical.
Doku is extremely quick in the way he shifts the ball, and it’s going to be so much fun watching him develop at City.
