Michail Antonio has now been speaking about Nicolas Otamendi – who left Manchester City in 2020.

The West Ham No.9 mentioned the Argentina international on The Players Channel podcast alongside Newcastle No.9 Callum Wilson.

So, what was said about Nicolas Otamendi? Let’s take a look…

What Michail Antonio said about Nicolas Otamendi

Well, it is safe to say that Antonio was probably relieved when the South American left Manchester City for Benfica in 2020, as he used to do one thing which infuriated the Jamaica international.

When asked if there are any players who frustrate him on the pitch, the 33-year-old said: “Mine was Otamendi. Oh my God. The thing is, it wasn’t like a tackle he had done on me or anything, he used to do this sound (kissing noise).”

Wilson replied: “I remember it!”

Antonio continued: “You remember it?! Oh. My. God. It used to go through me. I wanted to smash him so bad so he could come off the field! That is the only time someone has got to me, because he kept making that sound. He’s doing it to get the ball.”

It’s always fun to hear stories like this.

Otamendi appeared to be a solid enough defender in regards to the usual traits such as tackling, aerial duels and interceptions, although it is interesting to know that he was also someone who tried to get inside his opponent’s head as well as rough them up physically.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a strong twilight to his career since leaving the Etihad Stadium.

Otamendi – of course – won the World Cup with Argentina in December 2022, while also winning the Copa América on the international scene.

At club level, the Argentine – who recently defied Lionel Messi – lifted the Primeira Liga title with Benfica last season, earning a spot in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year thanks to his fine performances.

By the looks of it, everybody won from the deal involving Otamendi and Ruben Dias in 2020.
