Infamous Brentford striker Neal Maupay has been left with immediate regrets over a decision he made about Erling Haaland.
Maupay has been dominating the headlines over the last few weeks for his cheeky antics on the pitch.
The Frenchman got into an argument with Kyle Walker during Manchester City’s 3-1 win on Monday and a social media beef with Tottenham’s James Maddison after copying his celebration.
Now Maupay has been left taking back something he said about Haaland, but luckily it’s nowhere near as controversial this time.
Neal Maupay left regretting his Erling Haaland decision
Speaking on Brentford’s official TikTok channel, Maupay was challenged with ranking 10 footballers in order of how good he thinks they are.
However, there was a catch. Maupay couldn’t see all the names before he ranked them and instead had to place them on the list one-by-one.
This sort of challenge can lead to instant when ranking anything, as one item can get placed higher or lower than it would have done had all the information been readily available and that’s exactly what happened to Maupay.
With eight players ranked and only 1st and 2nd position remaining, Maupay drew Haaland and ranked him first out of fear a worse player would come out next.
Instead, his final player was Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta which left the 27-year-old reeling.
“Haaland, I think you go first because the next one could be…” Maupay said before he saw Iniesta revealed.
“Oh no!” he continued, “Iniesta! I put you first, I put you second but you’re first in my list. No hard feelings. Andres, I love you.”
The Haaland decision wasn’t Maupay’s biggest regret, though, as it was instead the placement of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The lowest position available when the former Chelsea and Arsenal striker came out was third, which left Maupay hilariously asking: “Oh my god, can I put him 11th.”
A right to regret
As much as Haaland is adored by City fans, it would be hard to disagree with Maupay’s regret over his decision too much.
The Norwegian sensation is the best striker on the planet with 78 goals over his 75 games for City but Andres Iniesta has already gone down as an all-time great.
The Spaniard – who is still playing at Emirates club in the UAE – has won all their is to win in his career.
Iniesta was an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s first sensational team in management, winning the treble in 2009.
He would win the Champions League four times in total, claim nine La Liga titles, win the Euros twice and score the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final.
Haaland coming second to that isn’t too bad at all.
