Wayne Rooney has claimed that Pep Guardiola and the work he has done at Manchester City has been a blessing for English football.
The Spaniard recently ended his seventh season in charge of the Manchester club by winning his fifth Premier League title, second FA Cup and his first Champions League trophy with them.
With the 52-year-old about to prepare for his next campaign with the treble winners, one former Premier League player, who knows what it’s like to be successful for a significant period of time, has shared his thoughts on the City boss.
Rooney hails Guardiola’s impact on English football

Speaking to the media in a recent press conference in Washington (via Simon Stone), Rooney had this to say about Guardiola, the impact he’s had in England and City’s recent success.
He said: “Pep Guardiola has been one of the best things that has happened to English football, for the league and national team, some of the coaching has really helped them develop as players. Goes in cycles. Unfortunately it is Man City’s time.”
During his time in charge of City, the 52-year-old has overlooked 413 matches in total across all competitions, winning 305, drawing 49 and losing 59.

With that in mind in addition to the number of trophies he’s lifted as City’s manager, it’s no wonder the former United star has shared his admiration for what Guardiola has done in England.
Having also claimed that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has had positive impacts on the entire Premier League and the England national team, this further highlights how significant Guardiola’s presence has been in the entire landscape of English football.
Moving forward, if the City manager can continue winning trophies for however long he’s in the dugout at the Etihad Stadium, he’ll no doubt go down in history as one of the best manager’s the Premier League has ever seen.
