Manchester City may well have to face up to the possibility of not having Julian Alvarez for the start of 2024/25.
Argentina will be competing at the Games in Paris.
Firstly though, they are in action at the Copa America, with Alvarez part of their squad for the tournament in the United States.
But it is very possible that Alvarez could be called into the squad for the Olympics.
It has now been reported what Manchester City will do if that happens, and a suggestion has also been made about why Alvarez is open to leaving this summer, aside from wanting more game time.
Man City won’t deny Julian Alvarez if he receives Olympics call, as climate claim made

It has been reported this morning by The Athletic that Manchester City are not going to stand in Alvarez’s way if he receives a call-up to the squad for the Olympics.
Some had wondered if the club would not permit him to go, since he is already going to the Copa America.
But City would let their £14 million signing depart. The gold medal match takes place on August 10, which is the same day City face Manchester United in the Community Shield.
Should Argentina reach that match, Alvarez would then be given two to three weeks off after the competition.
Interestingly, The Athletic then touch on the recent transfer speculation about Alvarez.
They say the South American could well be sold before any of that becomes relevant, with several clubs monitoring his situation right now.
Apparently, Alvarez is looking for more regular minutes and most intriguingly, he is believed to be keen to play in a sunnier climate, with his entire family accompanying him in Manchester.

It will be very interesting to watch Alvarez’s situation play out this summer.
It may well be that he isn’t available for the first couple of games because he has been granted a rest period, but it is not out of the question that he will have already been sold.
Seemingly, the player is definitely open to leaving the club this summer, and apparently has been for months – the line about wanting a warmer climate is something that hasn’t been suggested until now and that might be something that sees him push to depart.
This is something that we have also often heard about Bernardo Silva previously with the Manchester weather famously not so good.
What City don’t want here is Alvarez to leave the club once the season has already started.
