TalkSPORT journalist, Alex Crook, has suggested that Kyle Walker could make a move away from Manchester City this summer.
Earlier this week, it was reported by The Athletic that there is a high chance the Englishman will leave the Etihad Stadium during this current transfer window.
Now, one journalist has shed some light on the situation and mentioned one club that have an apparent interest in the full-back.
Crook discusses Walker situation
Speaking on talkSPORT, Crook said this about Walker and his current situation at City.
He said: “Kyle Walker’s got a year left on his contract, he too was a bit upset not to start that Champions League final and he’s potentially looking for a new challenge.
“Sheffield United would love to sign Kyle Walker, he’s a Sheffield boy, [he] started his career there.
“It might be a year too soon in terms of wages, it’s difficult to see how a newly-promoted side could match what he’s earning at City but I think it’s one to keep an eye on.”
Since joining Pep Guardiola’s side back in 2017 from Tottenham Hotspur, the England international has made 254 appearances for City across all competitions, winning five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and one Champions League.
After completing the full 90 minutes in both of City’s Champions League semi-final matches against Real Madrid, the 33-year-old wasn’t including in the starting XI for the final against Inter as Crook mentioned.
Having won a significant number of trophies with the Citizens, it’d be understandable why Walker may fancy something different.
However, we feel that although he didn’t start the game in Istanbul, the fact that he featured in 39 matches last season shows how important he is for the team and why his potential departure would be a big blow for the club.
Moving forward, we feel that the club should have no intentions of seeing the Englishman leave this summer and should, if they need to, convince Walker how significant he is for them and why he should continue his journey with them.
