‘Only positive’: Local media say £8 million Man City loanee dominated within minutes of coming on for his debut

Las Palmas were beaten 1-0 by Girona at the weekend, but Manchester City youngster Maximo Perrone caught the eye on his debut.

The Argentine youngster is spending the season on loan with the Spanish outfit, after not breaking into the City first-team last season.

City landed Perrone back in January from Velez Sarsfield for just over £8 million.

But he only made two appearances for City following his move.

He was never likely to break into the starting XI with City challenging for the Treble.

And so, officials decided to facilitate a loan move for him in the summer.

He joined Las Palmas and on Sunday, he made his debut for the club – and he has already caught the eye…

Man City talent Maximo Perrone impresses as he comes on for his Las Palmas debut

Las Palmas fell to a 1-0 defeat, with Portu scoring a late goal for Girona.

Girona, a club owned by the City Football Group, have actually enjoyed a solid start to the new season.

That win over Las Palmas sent them second in La Liga, between heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The defeat to Girona means Las Palmas are currently in the relegation zone, after picking up just two points from a possible 12.

To lose late on was frustrating, but Perrone’s cameo has been identified as a real positive.

He played for just over half an hour, and showed great control in midfield.

He completed 32/38 passes (84%), and also had 45 touches (Sofascore), which is a very respectable amount for someone playing for just over half an hour.

MARCA reported on the game, and suggested that Perrone’s debut was ‘perhaps the only positive thing that Las Palmas can take from the defeat’.

Perrone is said to have played ‘without fear, and with personality’. And he apparently took just minutes to start dominating the midfield for Las Palmas.

MARCA also say that he worked very hard and covered plenty of ground, as well as showing quality on the ball.

Encouraging start for Perrone

This is really encouraging to read regarding Perrone.

City fans still don’t know a great deal about the young South American, since he only played twice for the club last season after signing.

But it sounds like his debut went pretty well, despite a defeat for his loan club.

Perrone will now be looking to establish himself in the starting XI.

It’s actually not very often a player leaves City on loan and comes back and becomes a regular.

It would be great if Perrone could really kick on, and return to City next year a much improved, and potentially first team-ready, player.
