‘Other players wouldn’t’… Pundit says £54m Man City ace did something very unique in the 55th minute v Luton

Paul Dickov has claimed that Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne made a decision many would not make in his side’s 6-2 thumping of Luton Town.

As the Belgian was fed in behind the hosts’ defence with a sensational outside-the-boot pass from Kyle Walker in the 55th minute, he had the chance to go for goal.

Instead, Kevin De Bruyne’s selflessness shone through as he provided Erling Haaland with a tap-in to increase his goal tally to four at the time.

With the unselfish pass, the 32-year-old provided his 11th assist of the season, with only four players providing more than him in Europe, as per Squawka on X.

TNT Sports also revealed that the £54 million (Sky Sports) man has more assists than any other player at City, despite missing the bulk of the ongoing season.

Paul Dickov claimed that if a majority of attackers had the same decision to make as Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne against Luton, they would have tested Tim Krul.

“Kyle Walker, outside of his foot playing Kevin [De Bruyne] in and you’re always saying that Kevin does things that other players wouldn’t”, he said on the club’s official post-match show [via YouTube].

“90 per cent of attacking players would’ve shot there. You know, they’re through with the ‘keeper and he’s realised the angle’s a bit tight and sees his big mate in the middle, Erling [Haaland] and lays another assist.”

The decision says two things about Kevin De Bruyne

As Paul Dickov claimed, Kevin De Bruyne showcased his unselfishness by setting Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland up against Luton.

Firstly, De Bruyne showcased that he is an extremely selfless player and thinks about the team before himself.

At the end of the day, it was far likelier for a goal to occur if Haaland was handed a tap-in rather than him going for goal from a relatively challenging angle.

Secondly, with City set to enter a potential season-defining month of March, De Bruyne perhaps fed Haaland to ensure his confidence is sky-high.

The Sky Blues will be in desperate need for Erling Haaland to continue firing if they aim to win the Premier League as well as the Champions League and Kevin De Bruyne needs no reminding of this mere reality.

As a result, De Bruyne’s fourth assist of the night might have done wonders for the Norwegian’s confidence, who could be ready to spearhead his side alongside the talismanic midfielder to silverware once again.
