Graeme Souness has said that Manchester City goalkeeper, Ederson, is on the same level as Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

The shot-stopper ended his sixth season with the Manchester club by lifting his fifth Premier League title, second FA Cup and first Champions League.

With the treble winners now preparing to take on their next campaign, one pundit has highlighted why he thinks City are the favourites to regain the Premier League title.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Souness had this to say when discussing the strength of City’s squad heading into their upcoming Premier League season.

He said: “I believe that Man City have the strongest group of players in the history of the English game.

“If you take, for me, three players, Haaland, De Bruyne and the goalkeeper, take them out of it, and whoever is being subbed after that, it’s like-for-like in terms of quality.

“They’ve got outstanding quality and a very large squad. So I make them favourites again this year and it’s catch me if you can for the rest of them.”

City signed the Brazilian back in the 2017 summer transfer window from Benfica in a deal worth a reported fee of £35m.

Since then, the 29-year-old has made 289 appearances for the Citizens in all competitions, across which he has conceded 223 goals, kept 139 clean sheets and won numerous trophies along the way.

Last season saw the Brazil international show how vital he can be for Pep Guardiola’s side as he ended their Champions League-winning campaign with the highest save percentage (90.3%) out of any goalkeeper that made more than three appearances in the European competition.

In fact, he made five saves during the final against Inter Milan to not only keep another clean sheet but also help the club complete the treble and win their first Champions League title.

This earned him an overall match rating of 8.1/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated City player on the night in Istanbul.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Souness thinks Ederson can be considered as important to this City side as De Bruyne and Haaland.
