This summer transfer window was unprecedented within the Premier League.

Indeed, all of the big teams spent a lot of money, the British transfer record was broken twice by Liverpool, Arsenal finally signed a new striker, while Manchester City were busy too.

Tijjani Reijnders has already earned plenty of praise since signing for City, while Gianluigi Donnarumma was brilliant on his debut last week.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ Team Talks, Owen Hargreaves has been discussing the signing of Donnarumma, and he says the Italian could prove to be the biggest transfer of any move across the Premier League.

Gianluigi Donnarumma could be the biggest signing of the summer

Hargreaves shared his verdict on Donnarumma and his move to City.

The former England midfielder says the Italian could genuinely end up being the biggest transfer of the summer, despite his more modest transfer fee.

“Donnarumma is a huge plus to them. He could end up being the biggest transfer out of anybody I think,’ Hargreaves said.

“I think he gives them stability in those big moments he can make saves. United had some moments where they could have got something, so I think Pep will approach this game respectfully as well.”

Premier League’s biggest summer signings

Hargreaves says Donnarumma could end up being viewed as the biggest signing of the summer, but he faces a lot of competition on that front.

Indeed, this has been one of the biggest transfer windows in Premier League history, and it feels like every team in the league has made at least one truly crucial addition.

Financially, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are the biggest signings of the summer, but whether or not they will be the most impactful remains to be seen.

It’s early days, but it’s not silly to suggest that Donnarumma could be the most impactful signing in the Premier League.
