Paul Dickov says Jack Grealish is desperate to perform this season
Appearing on talkSPORT (15/8 8:13), Paul Dickov had this to say about Jack Grealish when asked if he could see the winger playing regularly for City this season.
He said: “I can do. I know he missed the Community Shield with a little niggle last week but Jack was absolutely flying in pre-season.
“Him and Oscar Bobb, people say it’s just pre-season games, were the two who really stood out in all the games they played over in America.
“Jack has got a huge point to prove. He was devastated getting left out in the summer.
“By his own admissions, he didn’t have the best season last season, stop-start with injuries, illness, form, [Jeremy] Doku’s form as well.
“But I do know that Jack has got the bit between his teeth to go out there and prove a lot of people wrong because he feels as if he’s got to.
“And sometimes when players are like that, especially Jack, it can bring the best out of them.”
Grealish will be eager to play regularly this season
As Dickov mentioned, Grealish admitted in an interview with The Athletic at the end of last season that he struggled with his confidence and other issues throughout the campaign which impacted his form.
As a result, the £300k-a-week Englishman only scored three goals and supplied just one assist in 20 league appearances, 10 of which he started.
Now that Dickov has highlighted how eager Grealish, who Guardiola said had returned for pre-season training in “perfect” shape, is to play and perform at a high level this season, this will be very encouraging for the City supporters who are hoping to see the winger back in action.
