As Liverpool’s Premier League title challenge ultimately collapsed last season, they would be hoping to make a better push for the coveted crown next season.
However, that will be easier said than done for Arne Slot, who is replacing one of the greatest managers in Premier League history in Jurgen Klopp.
So far, the Reds are the only team in the English top-flight to have made a signing.
Unlike Manchester City, who have only signed Savinho this summer after coming off the back of lifting four successive league titles, the Merseyside-based club neither have their winning record or quality of squad to remain quiet in the transfer window.
Like any team in the Premier League, Liverpool would ideally love to have some of City’s players at their disposal.
Perhaps Pep Guardiola himself would take some of Arne Slot’s players.
However, while Danny Mills claims City are title favourites despite not strengthening their squad drastically, Liverpool cannot be afforded such status due to having failed to win the league since 2020.
Arne Slot will be hoping that some of the problem areas in his squad are addressed ahead of the start of the 2024/2025 season.

Paul Scholes says Liverpool would ideally love to sign Rodri
Manchester City, on the other hand, have perhaps been quiet in the transfer window because there are not too many areas of the pitch where they are in serious need of bolstering.
Furthermore, the decision-makers at the Etihad Stadium perhaps trust Pep Guardiola’s knack of conjuring solutions when there are weaknesses in his squad; opting to back their manager rather than hastily signing a player who does not meet the requirements of a brilliant signing.
On The Overlap Fan Debate for the upcoming campaign, Paul Scholes mentioned Liverpool’s need to bring in a top defensive midfielder.
While discussing the Reds’ midfield cohort, Scholes claimed that their dream scenario, like any team’s would be to have Rodri on their books.
“I think Liverpool, in that area of the pitch, you’ve got some really good players, I could probably name four or five of them. You think of Harvey Elliott, there’s Curtis Jones, there’s [Dominik] Szoboszlai, there’s [Ryan] Gravenberch who scored against United, [Alexis] Mac Allister, we’ve not even spoken about.”
“I think it’s important they have someone that’s solid, that solid base, now, in an ideal world, we’ll all have taken Rodri. Rodri’s the best in the world at doing it.”
Recently, Jamie O’Hara also admitted that Rodri is the best defensive midfielder in the world bar none.
If Rodri joined Liverpool, they could have title advantage over Man City
While there is no scope of the £62.5 million man leaving City anytime soon, especially for a domestic rival, if he did join Liverpool hypothetically, they could become favourites over the Sky Blues to win the title.
Ultimately, Slot’s side only lack a world-class holding midfielder in their ranks, despite Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister being more than serviceable at the base of midfield,
However, Rodri’s presence as arguably the best in the world in his role coupled with him perhaps having a case for being the most well-rounded midfielder in the game would transform Liverpool as a side.
Luckily for Manchester City, the Spanish international seems happy to be at the club and is continuing to cement his legacy as a legendary figure at the Etihad Stadium.
Amongst many other factors, Rodri being a City player is why they should be viewed as the favourites to win the title again.
