Both Manchester City and Arsenal will head into the 2024/2025 Premier League season giving themselves a massive chance to go the distance.

From City’s perspective, they are the reigning four-time running champions of England and as a result, they have every reason to view themselves as the favourites to win the league.

As for Arsenal, their team is continuing to gain more and more experience in title races after every season.

The same applies in Mikel Arteta’s case as a manager, even though he will be taking on a seasoned winner in Pep Guardiola once again.

Guardiola will likely be motivated by the chance to create more history by winning five league titles in a row; a feat that could take decades to match for a team in the future.

Scholes reveals why Arsenal will trump Man City in Premier League title race

However, Arteta and his players would likely have been wounded by the fact two seasons in a row, they have failed to usurp City in the title race and now the pressure on them to do so will be increasing.

Arsenal have raised the expectations of their supporters and the masses by becoming a title-contending team once again.

But this Sky Blues side find a way to get over the line in a league season in a way that sets them apart from several legendary sides in the modern era; especially taking into account how challenging the Premier League is as a division for one team to dominate.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, Paul Scholes backed Arsenal to defeat Manchester City in the title race during the upcoming season.

Scholes initially said: “I think the Premier League favourites will be the same as last year, City will be favourites closely followed by Arsenal.”

The pundit added: “I have said a few times that I expect Arsenal to be the team to win it this year. I think they’ve progressed over the last couple of years under Mikel Arteta especially. I just think this year is the time when they’re ready to win it, I think.”

“It’s not going to be easy, there’s going to be a lot of competition, we know the top seven or eight teams in England are good teams. But I just think this year that Arsenal will be the team to break the City cycle.”

Man City should be motivated by Paul Scholes’ claim

A question that is worth posing is how the players at Manchester City are expected to replicate their same drive from previous seasons to win the league once again.

But claims such as Arsenal being predicted to win the league over City by Paul Scholes should motivate the players, Pep Guardiola and the staff at the Etihad Stadium to disprove such predictions.

The Sky Blues can push themselves to go for glory based on the fact that despite their tremendous success over the years, there are still figures that expect them to falter in the fight for the title.

If Manchester City can use Paul Scholes’ claim to attain greatness once again, it will take some doing for Arsenal to usurp them.

Only time will tell whether City are well and truly up for the challenge.
