‘People fear him’: Wright-Phillips says Man City have another scary player alongside Haaland

Former Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes his former side have another scary player in their ranks in addition to Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian striker has formed a reputation is being one of the most dangerous players in the game today.

Last season he hit 52 goals across all competitions – a truly phenomenal return.

Haaland is only 23, but he has just caused devastation right from the very outset of his career.

It’s likely that he is the first player the opposition thinks about when coming up against City.

But there is actually another player who is scary according to Wright-Phillips.

Shaun Wright-Phillips hails Kyle Walker and says Bayern players were scared of him

Before yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid, there was some coverage from the likes of Wright-Phillips, Joleon Lescott, Steph Houghton and David James on the Matchday Live programme on City’s YouTube channel.

Wright-Phillips and Lescott were speaking about a few of the City players.

Wright-Phillips was asked for his thoughts about Walker and how he’s got on so far in pre-season against a backdrop of speculation about his future.

He said: “We was (enjoying it). We were also enjoying how scared everybody was of him. As soon as they saw him coming like a steam train, they kind of just backed up and just forgot about the ball. Or they just tried to kick the ball onto him to get a throw in. It just shows what he’s built in his career.

“He’s got a reputation now. People fear him.”

Walker is probably so difficult to play against

Bayern’s players weren’t the first to show their fear against Walker and they will not be the last.

The man is just a physical specimen. That pace just makes him electric and he is obviously very strong as well.

But not only does he have those physical attributes – he is also technically excellent, and much improved in that area compared to when he first arrived.

It must be so hard for full-backs and wingers to come up against him.

And that is why City really, really need to keep hold of him this summer, amid interest from Bayern.
