It has been reported that it is unlikely that Florian Wirtz, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City will leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

This comes from journalist Jack Gaughan in a Q&A for the Daily Mail, as it was claimed on Monday that it would take a ‘crazy’ bid for the German side to sell the 20-year-old.

But now it seems that even if Manchester City had a lofty bid lined up for Florian Wirtz, that is unlikely to lead to his exit currently.

Jack Gaughan: Florian Wirtz to Manchester City is now unlikely this summer

Branded as ‘outstanding’ by Germany boss Hansi Flick (via Bundesliga’s official website), the silky creator seems tailor-made to play in sky blue.

Especially after Kevin De Bruyne’s long-term injury, the youngster would have been a tremendous addition to dovetail in midfield alongside Phil Foden.

But now, it seems like the dream to witness Florian Wirtz in a Manchester City shirt is unlikely to become a reality, at least this summer.

“People I’ve spoken in Germany to expect Wirtz to remain with Bayer Leverkusen this season. There’s so much hype around him and a hope that he’ll become the country’s next megastar.”

Jack Gaughan did make a general observation about Bundesliga clubs that may give certain Manchester City fans hope about landing Florian Wirtz.

“Quite what Jamal Musiala will think about that is another matter! It’s important to say though that RB Leipzig were absolutely adamant that Josko Gvardiol was going nowhere. Once the player makes it clear he wants to leave now, it’s still hard for the Bundesliga clubs to stay firm when big money is on the table.”

Florian Wirtz should be a target for summer 2024

While a number of top European clubs are expected to compete to sign Florian Wirtz in the summer of 2024, Manchester City should be right in the mix.

The German international is well and truly a special talent and as Kevin De Bruyne’s contract expires in 2025, a succession plan must be in place to replace one of, if not the greatest creator of his generation.

It may be a challenge for Phil Foden to singlehandedly do so and as a result, adding Florian Wirtz to the side in order to divide the responsibility of succeeding him would be sensational business.
