Pep Guardiola has admitted it’s been a difficult season for one of his biggest players.
Manchester City destroyed Luton Town 6-2 in an entertaining match at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night in the FA Cup.
Though there was a brief spirited comeback from the hosts, City dominated with Erling Haaland tucking away the first five goals.
Kevin De Bruyne was the provider for four of them as he topped City’s assist charts with 11 in just 12 appearances before Mateo Kovacic put the cherry on top with a strike from distance.
The Blues are now in the hat for Wednesday’s quarter-final draw and the dream of winning an unprecedented back-to-back treble remains a real possibility.
However, it was not a perfect night as Jack Grealish went off injured in the 38th minute.
Pep Guardiola was asked about the £100m man’s latest setback after the match and admitted it’s been a tough season for him.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Guardiola said: “I didn’t speak to doctors but I think he complained a bit about the groin.
“Maybe a little bit similar. He felt really good but unfortunately was injured again at the beginning of the game.
“It’s been a tough season for him, has to recover well and help us when he’s able to come back.”
Jack Grealish has to come back stronger
If Grealish’s reaction to the injury is anything to go by then things certainly don’t look good.
The 28-year-old was visibly upset as he made his way off the pitch and moved to cover his face with a training jacket as he took a seat in the dugout.
Hopefully, it’s just the shock of getting injured again so soon and the knock isn’t as bad as feared.
Grealish has only recently returned from time out as he suffered a similar muscle strain against FC Copenhagen earlier this month.
Luton was his first game back since the knock but now he looks set for more time on the sidelines.
Now Grealish just needs to listen to Guardiola and recover well. City will need him as the business end of the season picks up.
