Pep Guardiola has provided an injury update about Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Phil Foden ahead of their upcoming clash against Liverpool.
The English attacker recently had appendicitis, which is why he got surgery, while there remain question marks over whether the former has fully recovered from his thigh strain.
In his latest press conference, Pep Guardiola provided an update regarding the fitness statuses of Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.
Guardiola provided Haaland and Foden injury update
The pair are vitally important to City’s attack as barring Kevin De Bruyne, it would be fair to say that the youthful duo are City’s most impactful attackers.
Whether it be in terms of their individual goal threats or their ability to conjure something out of nothing, both boyhood Sky Blues fans have the knack of turning a game on its head.
Now, Pep Guardiola has delivered hopeful and upsetting news about Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, ahead of Manchester City’s contest against Liverpool.
“Erling [Haaland] is recovering, this afternoon we have the last training session and we are going to see how he feels.”
“We’ll see today. At the end, the doctors and the player will decide how he feels, I spoke with him, he feels good. We will see. Life is risk in these stages, we have to take it.”
“The doctors tell me 2-3 weeks I think, we will see how he develops”, he told Manchester Evening News’ Dan Brown.
Haaland could be in with a chance of starting
It’s relatively clear to read from what Pep Guardiola said that while Phil Foden has most certainly been ruled out against Liverpool, the same is not the case with Erling Haaland.
Considering a draw or a defeat for City could virtually end their title hopes, it seems as if Guardiola could be willing to risk Haaland’s fitness, as he is simply the club’s most valuable player at the minute.
If he does end up starting and feels 100%, the visitors should tread lightly at the Etihad Stadium.
