Haaland put in one of the best displays from a centre-forward you will see this season.

He set up De Bruyne twice, and was at times unplayable. Rob Holding and Gabriel both had a torrid time against the Norwegian striker.

John Stones also got on the scoresheet with a header just before half-time.

He timed his run perfectly, with De Bruyne picking him out from a free-kick.

City’s intensity levels dropped in the final 20 minutes or so, and Arsenal did pull one back through Holding.

Haaland squandered several chances in the game. But he did finish the game with a customary goal, turning in from Phil Foden’s pass.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola hailed his two superstars De Bruyne and Haaland.

He said: “Erling is an incredible threat. With the previous season we had the false nine and we played completely different. But now the connection with Kevin and Erling is extraordinary. And we tried to use it as much as possible.
