'We need him': Pep Guardiola emphasises why £175,000-a-week star is key to Man City

Pep Guardiola has emphasised why Kyle Walker remains such a key cog in the Man City machine.

In the 2022/2023 season, Walker has been restricted to a mere 7 Premier League starts due to a groin injury.

After returning from the World Cup off the back of playing for England right after surgery, the 32-year-old is yet to make an appearance for Man City.

However, Guardiola, much like any and everyone associated with the club is cognizant of how crucial Kyle Walker is.

Over the years, it is the £175,000-a-week defender’s incredible recovery pace and unrivalled ability in 1v1 defensive situations that has allowed Man City to play such an attacking brand of football.

Mastering the role of an inverted right-back as well, Walker provides control in and out of possession in the middle of the park.

And the main man at Man City has reminded the world of his importance.

“We [Man City] need Kyle [Walker] back as soon as possible at his best.”

“Definitely, we need him. Rico [Lewis] is not going to solve the problems. Rico is going to help us.”

“You know what Kyle can do because he has shown it for a long, long time. The young players have to help the other ones, we cannot put it on Rico’s shoulders”, Guardiola said, as per the official website.

Guardiola is spot on in his assessment about the Man City mainstay

Especially looking at things from the perspective of the title race, Kyle Walker is so key to this Man City side.

The quality and experience that comes with Walker playing in the Premier League for over a decade, while winning four league titles is invaluable.

While Pep Guardiola himself lauded Rico Lewis, tipping him to become the Man City right-back for the next decade, he knows how key the Englishman remains to his side’s success.
