Pep Guardiola now gives one-word answer to confirm Manchester City’s plans for transfer deadline day

So far, Manchester City are yet to make a single signing on transfer deadline day.

But as demonstrated by Ilkay Gundogan’s return to City, the transfer market tends to be extremely unpredictable.

When Manchester City signed Manuel Akanji on deadline day, it did not seem like another centre-back was intended to make his way to the Etihad Stadium.

But Akanji went on to become one of Guardiola’s most trusted men during the 2022/2023 season and to this day, he has become a mainstay in the side.

The English giants could potentially be wondering that with the new UEFA Champions League format in place, it might be wise to bring in another fresh face to the club.

But then again, City seem to be definitive in their seeming mindset of not simply adding bodies to their squad for the sake of it.

Guardiola reveals Man City transfer deadline day plans

Ultimately, every signing that any club makes is an investement.

As a result, there are goals attached to such an investement.

For City to enter the market and sign a player who they feel is unlikely to fulfil the objectives expected of him would be a careless way to do business.

However, with the Sky Blues’ seeming pull in the transfer market, they could be exploring potential options in the market.

As Manchester City prepare to face West Ham United on Saturday, Pep Guardiola was quizzed about the club’s deadline day plans.

It was reported on Wednesday that Pep Guardiola was happy with his Manchester City squad and felt at ease about no major signings or sales occurring any longer this summer.

“Are you expecting a very quiet deadline day?”

The £378.846-a-week man replied via the club’s official YouTube channel: “Yes.”

Man City should feel at ease about their squad

Much like every club, Manchester City could also bolster some positions in their squad.

But simultaneously, not all transfer business can be conducted in the same summer.

Ideally, City would have replaced Julian Alvarez and maybe even signed a backup to Rodri but it is easier said than done to complete such deals.

Largely, Manchester City have a world-class squad that can help them make more history this season.

It will be up to Pep Guardiola, his staff and the players to push themselves to the limit and improve upon a successful 2023/2024 campaign.

Whether City manage to do so after a quiet deadline day will be intriguing to witness throughout the season.
