Pep Guardiola has shared his response to Wayne Rooney’s recent comments about his willingness to become Manchester City’s assistant coach if offered a role.
During a recent edition of Stick To Football, Rooney said that he would be open to becoming part of Guardiola’s coaching staff at City.
Now though, the Spaniard has shared his thoughts on what the former Manchester United striker had to say.
Guardiola responds to Rooney comments

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, Guardiola had this to say when asked about Rooney’s comments about him being open to a potential coaching role at the Etihad Stadium.
He said: “He can come any time, more than welcome. For our city, of course, he’s important, but he is a Red Devil, he is United but of course, it’s nice for all of us.
“Wayne Rooney has been one of the greatest in this country of all time, so if he makes compliments for all of us, it’s nice. That comes from what he said from working that many years. He knows. He was there with United.
“He won one Premier League, Wayne Rooney? I don’t think so. He won a lot. That means he knows how difficult it is to be there and that’s why he knows how difficult it is.”
With Rooney saying that he’d be willing to join City’s coaching team, this shows how much he values and admires the work that Guardiola has done there.
Having been so successful at United during his playing career, it’s undeniable that Rooney knows what it takes to compete at a high level.
However, having been sacked from his previous managerial job at Birmingham City after just 15 games, winning just two of them, it doesn’t seem likely to us that the former England captain would be a massively beneficial addition to Guardiola’s coaching staff.
