Pep Guardiola shares fresh Rodri injury update after he was taken off during Man City vs Arsenal

Since Manchester City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Rodri’s injury seems to have become the main talking point surrounding the club.

It was claimed that the City midfielder had suffered an ACL injury that would rule him out for the season in a recent report by journalist Moises Laurens for ESPN.

The £220,000-a-week man being sidelined with injury for such a long spell capped off a frustrating few days for the Premier League champions.

While Rodri limping off the pitch against Arsenal could have indicated to some that his injury was not serious, that did not end up being the case.

Fabrizio Romano posted a video on X showing the 28-year-old arriving in Barcelona to meet Dr. Ramon Cugat — who has often treated injured Manchester City players in the past.

It seemed like all Pep Guardiola and Rodri could do was accept the dire situation and look ahead.

Guardiola reveals new Rodri injury news

According to FbRef, the Spanish international played the most minutes (4,167) out of any Manchester City player in all competitions last season.

The former Atletico Madrid technician also started a whopping 47 games during the previous campaign.

The four-time Premier League winner’s durability has been an impressive sight during his time at City.

Despite playing as much football as he has over the years, the decorated maestro was fortunately to avoid any serious injuries before his latest setback.

After Manchester City beat Watford 2-1 in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, Pep Guardiola was quizzed about Rodri.

Guardiola provided a potentially hopeful update about his injury — revealing that he has heard that it is not as serious as it seemed — stressing that the status of his countryman’s setback is yet to be confirmed.

The Catalan said via HaytersTV: “Will be out for a long time, a while. But there are some opinions that maybe it will be less than we expect but unfortunately, he was injured and right, still I cannot tell you because we are waiting on the last phone calls with him and the doctors to know exactly what he definitely has and the type of surgery that he has to get.”

Pep Guardiola was also asked when he will be given a confirmation about the status of Rodri’s injury.

“We expect tomorrow, I think, tonight, tomorrow, we will know it exactly.”

“I think the club, we will inform perfectly.”

Manchester City will have to adapt without Rodri regardless

It goes without saying that for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, it would be ideal if Rodri can play some part in their games this season.

But the two-time treble-winning manager did confirm that the ex-Villareal anchor is set to be injured for a “long time.”

As a result, Pep Guardiola can only help Manchester City adapt while Rodri is nursing his injury.

It will be interesting to see which player in City’s squad Guardiola earmarks to replace the Madrid-born talisman.

The player in question will have to be up for taking on such a huge responsibility.
