Manchester City got back to winning ways in the Premier League by beating Fulham 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

City’s two previous league games saw them draw 2-2 against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium and then 1-1 with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Pep Guardiola’s side then followed those two draws up by beating Slovan Bratislava 4-0 away from home to secure their first Champions League win of the season and put them in a good frame of mind to take on Fulham.

Having seen his side come away with all three points this time around, the City boss singled out one particular player for some significant praise as a result of the impact he had in the game against the Cottagers.

Pep Guardiola praises Jeremy Doku after Man City vs Fulham

Speaking to the official Man City website after the match, Guardiola had this to say when asked about the goal Jeremy Doku scored to put the home side 3-1 up in the second half against Marco Silva’s side.

He said: “Really, really good. We always talk about his ability to dribble but it is then about the final pass, that last action.

“I was diagonal to him [when he hit the shot] and the ball made an incredible curve effect. Really happy for him. The last game against Bratislava he was really good and today as well.”

Doku had the best possible impact against Fulham

After starting and completing the full 90 minutes against Bratislava on Tuesday night where he also delivered an assist, made five key passes and hit the woodwork, Doku found himself starting on the bench against Fulham.

In midweek, Doku became the first player since the 2008/09 season to have 26 touches in the opposition box in a Champions League match.

With 62 minutes on the clock this time around, the winger replaced Jack Grealish before he then went on to score City’s vital third goal of the game 20 minutes later with a thunderous strike from outside the box.

This highlights the exact sort of impact Guardiola would have been hoping to see from the Belgian after his busy performance in Slovakia a few days prior.
