Pep Guardiola says Man City ace has been fantastic without even playing in the right position

Pep Guardiola has been left very impressed by the versatility of one of his Manchester City stars.

After the draw with Chelsea, Manchester City got back to winning ways on Tuesday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brentford thanks to Erling Haaland’s winner.

It was an important win that saw Pep Guardiola’s side climb to within a point of Liverpool, for a day at least.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit aren’t in Premier League action this weekend as they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday but did defeat Luton on Wednesday to restore a four-point gap.

The win over the Bees was also important as it marked Oscar Bobb’s first Premier League start for City.

Guardiola was asked about the 20-year-old’s progress and moved to point out how well he played in an unnatural position.

Pep Guardiola praises Oscar Bobb

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: “Everyone will see him, his speed, his courage, many, many things.

“He’s done really, really well. Last game playing that position, not his natural position on the left wing.

“[He’s] More comfortable in the central position on the right side but made an effort there. Against Brentford, is so difficult no matter the position you play.

“But yeah, hopefully, he can still be with us for many, many years.”

A promising future

The future looks bright for Bobb after a breakout season at City.

It may have been the Norwegian’s first league start but he has made 16 appearances across all competitions and is becoming a trusted member of the squad.

Bobb is making some crucial contributions, too, with two goals and two assists already to his name – including a fantastic finish against Newcastle United.

He hasn’t had much chance to play in his favoured central position but, like Phil Foden before him, he likely will have to bide his time and learn his trade out on the flank.

Foden hasn’t even got a guaranteed place in the middle yet so it will be some time before Bobb does.

Thankfully, reports suggest Bobb is expected to sign a new long-term contract, so he will have plenty of time to earn his ideal spot.
