Pep Guardiola shares Savinho injury update after he was subbed off in Man City’s 2-1 win vs Brentford

In the closing stages of Manchester City’s 2-1 win against Brentford, Savinho was taken off by Pep Guardiola.

The City winger was clutching his hamstring and looked in real discomfort as he walked off the pitch.

Savinho was ruled out of playing any part in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United due to suffering a knee injury.

The 20-year-old was also taken off at half-time after he picked up a knock during the Sky Blues’ 2-0 triumph against Chelsea — as his start to life at the Etihad Stadium was starting to be curtailed by injuries.

As a result, it seemed like the Brazilian could be set for a spell on the sidelines due to yet another setback.

Any time a player clutches his hamstring, more often than not, they are ruled out for at least a month.

However, with Manchester City set to play Inter Milan, Watford and Arsenal this week, Savinho’s absence would have been far from ideal.

Guardiola reveals in-form Man City star injury update

The likes of Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden could all have been asked to deputise in his absence on the right-wing.

But ideally, Pep Guardiola would have been hoping to especially assess where Savinho stands against sides like Inter Milan and Arsenal.

The former ESTAC Troyes wideman is still a young player and the £378,846-a-week manager would be keen to explore how he performs against the best of the best.

The early signs suggest that the in-form wide forward is certainly at the level to play for City.

But often, young players struggle to impose themselves in big games.

Luckily for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, Savinho informed him that he had suffered a mere cramp against Brentford and with that being the case, he could potentially be available for selection this week.

Guardiola said via HaytersTV: “Looks like cramp. He said cramp. I didn’t speak with the doctor but we’ll see, we’ll see.”

Savinho would be hoping to start against Inter Milan

As Pep Guardiola stated, a true reflection of Savinho’s fitness will only be in place once he is medically examined.

But if the highly-rated wideman is fit, he would be itching to start against Inter Milan.

Like any player, Savinho would be dreaming of playing a major role in his side’s Champions League campaign.

Especially against a team of Inter Milan’s calibre.

If Savinho is fit, it will be interesting to see whether Pep Guardiola hands him a start or opts to play a more experienced player in his place.

One of the biggest driving factors for the Sao Mateus-born forward’s decision to sign for Manchester City would have been to play regular Champions League football.
