Manchester City beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in their second Champions League match of the season.

Goals from Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and James McAtee led to City getting their first Champions League win of the campaign.

Tuesday’s match in Slovakia was a particularly special one for a Bratislava player who has a previous connection with the Manchester club.

Specifically, Bratislava captain Vladimir Weiss played against his old side for the first time since leaving the Etihad Stadium back in 2012.

Having been subbed off after 63 minutes, the former City player took the chance to speak to Pep Guardiola shortly after the game.

This then led to the 53-year-old sharing what was said between the pair on what was an emotional night for the winger.

Pep Guardiola reveals what Vladimir Weiss spoke to him about after Man City vs Slovan Bratislava

After being seen having a conversation with Weiss after the final whistle, Guardiola said this when asked in his post-match press conference about what he spoke to the former City player about.

He said: “He asked to come to visit us in Manchester, and we would be delighted.

“He was part of the club and so on, and I asked him what’s next, and he said, ‘Maybe manager in the future, we will see.’ It was a good night for him!”

What did Weiss do during his time as a City player?

Having joined City’s academy back in the 2006 summer transfer window, Weiss completed loan deals at clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Rangers and Espanyol before joining Pescara on a permanent basis in 2012.

During his time at the Manchester club, the winger made just five senior appearances across all competitions between the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons.

Weiss scored just one goal across those games, which came during a 3-0 win over Arsenal in the quarter-final of the League Cup back in 2009.

In the build-up to Tuesday’s game, Weiss said that Guardiola has “changed football” due to his attitude, creativity and stubbornness in a positive way.

This shows just how much Weiss admires the City boss and how he still has a lot of love for the club by asking Guardiola if he can come back to Manchester for a visit at some point in the future.
