Manchester City have had a strong start to their 2024/25 season.

With two Premier League games played, City won both of them to put themselves top of the league table on goal difference heading into the third week of fixtures.

After securing a 2-0 away win against Chelsea in the opening weekend, Pep Guardiola’s team beat Ipswich Town 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

This evening sees the champions take on West Ham United at the London Stadium, ahead of which the City boss has shared some details on when the Blues supporters can expect to see one of last season’s key players back in action.

Pep Guardiola shares potential return date for Phil Foden

On the subject of when Phil Foden could make his return to action after missing last weekend’s match against Ipswich, Guardiola had this to say on the matter in a recent press conference.

He said: “Hopefully not [too long]. Hopefully, after the international break, he’ll be ready.

“He played against Chelsea for 45 minutes but then after he didn’t feel good. He had tests and feels much better, but he still doesn’t feel perfect.

“I prefer we [have] that time for him to recover and be fine and after, come back after the international break and be ready for those games.”

City will need Foden back as soon as possible

As Guardiola mentioned, Foden made his first appearance of the season in the second half against Chelsea after he started every game for England in the 2024 European Championship.

Having then seen the midfielder miss the Ipswich match, Guardiola said that Foden will be unavailable for the trip to West Ham.

Bearing in mind how the 24-year-old scored 19 goals and supplied eight assists in 35 Premier League appearances last season, it’s safe to say that Guardiola will want to get Foden back to full fitness and on the right track to getting back to the form he showed last term as soon as possible.
