Pep Guardiola is set to hold talks with Riyad Mahrez over his future at Manchester City amid recent transfer rumours.
Since the end of last season, the attacker has been on the radar of Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli, who are apparently looking to make a £30m offer to City for the 32-year-old in the coming days.
Now, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the current situation concerning the treble winner.
Guardiola to hold talks with Mahrez
According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, Guardiola, who is eager to see Mahrez stay at City, will be having talks with the winger about his future.
The report also adds that the Algerian’s unhappiness about his lack of game time towards the end of last season could sway him into bringing an end to his time with the Citizens and start a new chapter in Saudi Arabia.
Since joining the Manchester club back in 2018 from Leicester City in a deal worth a reported fee of £60m, the winger has made 236 appearances across all competitions, scoring 78 goals and delivering 59 assists.
After the City manager revealed that Mahrez was “grumpy” about his game time back in April, which was before he ended up being an unused substitute in the FA Cup and Champions League finals, it’s easy to see why he may be considering leaving the club.
However, with him finding the net 15 times and providing 13 assists across his 47 appearances last season, we feel that Guardiola should do all he can to convince Mahrez to stay where he is and continue to help the team win trophies.
