Oscar Bobb was handed a full Manchester City debut by Pep Guardiola in the Carabao Cup Third Round clash against Newcastle United on Wednesday.
There is plenty of excitement surrounding the 20-year-old after his electric cameo appearances for the Citizens, although he could not fire the Citizens to victory at St James’ Park, angering his boss after one mistake.

Well – according to Joe Bray of the Manchester Evening News – the Spaniard was literally up in arms after the Norwegian wonderkid made a poor decision in the 18th minute.
Bray – who was at the game – took to Twitter to share that he noticed Guardiola complaining to his coaching staff after Bobb decided to pass the ball to Julian Alvarez, rather than shoot for goal himself.
The journalist wrote: “First chance for City. Bobb has space through the middle but plays in Alvarez and the shot is saved. Pep had his arms up in the air when Bobb didn’t shoot, and is still going on to his coaches.”
Now, that doesn’t sound like a major error from the Norway Under-21 international.
However, we all know just how high Guardiola’s standards are, and how much the 52-year-old obsesses over fine details, so he will surely have a word with Bobb in training about this moment.
Oscar Bobb was still one of the better performers for Manchester City
While Guardiola was clearly annoyed by this 18th minute moment, it spoke volumes that he left Bobb on for the entire 90 minutes.
In truth, the Oslo-born prodigy deserved to stay on, as he was one of the better performers for Manchester City on Tyneside.
As WhoScored shows, Bobb completed three successful dribbles, more than any other player on the pitch, while only Jack Grealish registered more than his two key passes.
The Manchester City No.52 also showed his industrial side with two successful tackles – only Nathan Ake recorded more for the Citizens with three.
Hopefully, Bobb is given more opportunities in the first team by Guardiola after this bright display.
